Navigating Homeownership with Terri Hatfield-Dull: A Horizon West Mortgage Broker’s Journey
8 August, 2024
Terri Hatfield-Dull, a dedicated mortgage broker, began her professional journey in a completely different field. She attended the University of Central Florida, where she earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. Initially, Terri pursued a career as a teacher, driven by her passion for nurturing and educating. However, she eventually sought new challenges and opportunities, leading her to transition into sales and marketing.
Terri’s path to becoming a mortgage broker was somewhat serendipitous. She stumbled into the real estate business, discovering that it allowed her to continue serving her community in meaningful ways. “It’s another way for me to serve the community,” she explains. “I can still nurture and educate, but now I help people navigate one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.”
Terri is passionate about her work and her community. She joined Horizon West Professionals in early 2018, shortly after its inception. She is also proud of being one of the nine founding members of The Rotary Club of Horizon West. “I served as President Elect for two years, President for one year, and I’m now currently in the role of Secretary,” she shares.
Terri loves the community closeness of Horizon West, which reminds her of her Midwestern roots growing up in Springfield, Missouri. “Horizon West is supportive and friendly. You get a good community feel here,” she says warmly.
As a mortgage broker, Terri’s mission is to simplify the home-buying process for her clients. She understands that purchasing a home can be intimidating, especially since it is something most people do only a few times in their lives. “I help people purchase homes and guide them through the home-buying process. My goal is to make it smooth and stress-free for them,” she explains. Her dedication to helping others build wealth through homeownership is clear. “I love helping families create generational wealth through owning their homes.”
Terri emphasizes the importance of buying a home sooner rather than later, even if it is not the perfect home. She believes that waiting can make housing less attainable due to rising prices. “I’d rather see them buy and build equity. First-time homebuyers need to see it as an investment in their future,” she advises.
Looking ahead, Terri plans to continue her career as a mortgage broker until retirement. She loves her work and envisions interest rates eventually coming down, prompting more people to refinance at lower rates. Her dedication to serving her community remains steadfast.
On a personal note, Terri has a blended family that includes her 33-year-old son, Jordan, who just got engaged this month to his sweetheart, Lola, and her 21-year-old daughter Aydan, who is in her senior year at a Parson’s School of Design in Manhattan. She is also the proud mom of three bonus kids ranging from 19 to 34: Liz, Grace, and Caleb. Terri and Greg, her husband of less than 11 years, have a zest for international travel. Greg, known around town as the “points and miles guru,” is self-employed as a consultant in the aviation business. In the last five years, they have visited 16 countries, with Switzerland, Bali, and Thailand being on their “favorites” list.
Terri Hatfield-Dull’s journey from education to mortgage brokering showcases her adaptability, passion, and commitment to her community. Her diverse background and dedication make her a trusted residential mortgage advisor who is ready to help clients achieve their homeownership dreams. Terri’s story is a testament to the impact one can make with the right mindset and commitment.
