Painting Their Own Path in Horizon West: Nedy Trent and Color Me Mine

Meet Nedy and Percy Trent Jr., the owners of Color Me Mine, a family-owned business that recently opened near Horizon West. Nedy and Percy are Navy veterans who have brought their discipline and dedication to their new venture.

Their inspiration for Color Me Mine came from their time in California, where pottery painting was a popular family activity. Fast forward to this past September, when Nedy had to drive across town with her daughter to enjoy their favorite hobby. During one of these outings, Nedy realized there were no similar options nearby. She began to research online and discovered that the closest Color Me Mine franchise was in Tampa. Encouraged by this discovery, she promptly completed a franchise interest form online, and everything fell into place seamlessly. “It all happened so fast; it was meant to be,” Nedy recalls.

The discipline and structure from their Navy experience have been invaluable in running a new business. “For me, the military instilled a sense of structure and organization, making me highly goal and task-oriented,” Nedy explains. This background has given them the resilience and strategic mindset necessary to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.

As Horizon West residents, the Trents have fallen in love with the area. They appreciate the sincere community spirit, diverse local activities, and events such Homegrown in Horizon West. “It’s a dynamic and growing community,” Nedy says. “It is the perfect place for our new business.” The family-friendly atmosphere and strong sense of community were key factors that attracted them to settle here. Engaging with the local community is a priority for Nedy. As the only Color Me Mine location in the Orlando area, she is dedicated to introducing the brand to the city and becoming a familiar favorite for residents. Nedy is determined to establish strong connections within the community and make Color Me Mine a beloved local spot.

Looking to the future, Nedy hopes to open a second Color Me Mine location on the east side of Orlando and continue building generational wealth for her family. As the first entrepreneur in her family, she wants to set an example for her children. “I hope to inspire them to pursue their passions and understand the value of hard work and dedication,” she says.

Her advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is straightforward: “Just do it! Jump in feet first and take the risk, because it is all about what you put into it. If you intend to be part of a community, then why not?” Nedy emphasizes the importance of believing in yourself and taking bold steps toward your dreams. Their story is a reminder that with determination and support, it is possible to create something meaningful and impactful. As they continue to grow Color Me Mine, the Trents are not only building a business but also fostering a sense of creativity and community in Horizon West.
