Crowds Give Hamlin Cruise-In the “Wheel” of Approval

Resident Takes Passion for Vintage Cars, Helps Create Community Event!

Horizon West local Lou Ferraro is a bonafide car enthusiast! He’s owned 47 cars in his lifetime and is currently the proud owner of more than one antique! You may have even seen him cruisin’ his beautiful ’57 Chevy Bel Air to popular sites around town

Nearly two years ago, Lou started a Facebook group — Horizon West Cars & Trucks — for car and truck lovers to come together and share their love for automobiles. He has been working on plans for cruises, morning coffee meetups and other ways to get those who share a love of autos together.

As it would happen, Boyd Development Corporation — the owner of Hamlin that regularly hosts memorable and fun community events — had plans for a classic car show on their event list. Once they connected with Lou, plans for the first-ever Hamlin Cruise-In began to come to life!

Working together to plan the theme and all the important details, they collaborated to create what will likely be another new Horizon West tradition!

On Saturday, January 14, the Hamlin Cruise-In brought community members, local businesses and vehicle enthusiasts together for a 1950’s-themed showcase of 36 cars and trucks manufactured from 1950 through 1979. The wide array of classics and antiques on display gave attendees the opportunity to appreciate the vehicles’ fine details as well as chat with the local owners.

The free, family-friendly event took place on the top deck of the Hamlin parking garage, which provided a perfect space for food trucks and vendors, a DJ, live entertainers, a Kids Zone and more. The event had a great turnout and received terrific feedback from the community!

Attendees were already asking for the date of the next event before this one even finished, according to Lou! He is working on plans for more Hamlin Cruise-Ins, hoping to make this a regular event for the Horizon West community.

If you’d like to participate in upcoming events with your car or as an attendee, be sure to join the Facebook group and follow @HorizonWestCarsandTrucks on Instagram.

Horizon West Happenings extends thanks and kudos to Lou for being a terrific community member who is working to ‘create what he wants to be part of’ and bringing the community together in doing so! And, likewise, thanks to Boyd Development and Hamlin for helping to make these events possible! Great job to all the organizers! We look forward to the next Hamlin Cruise-In!
