OCLS Releases Design Renderings to the Board of Trustees!

The Horizon West Branch Will Boast a Nature-Theme in Keeping With Native Wildlife.

Chief Branch Officer, Danielle King, presented renderings to the Orange County Library Board that give an idea of the features that are planned for the Horizon West branch. It’s important to keep in mind that these are renderings, and  not final products. They may change as the process goes on.

Here are some bullet points of what she shared with the board:

  • We have completed 30 percent construction documents, and the team is working on the 60 percent construction documents, which are due in October.
  • Landscaping will feature native plants and have a Florida native flower teaching garden.
  • The site will have a nature path with a permanent StoryWalk®.
  • Nature theme will carry over inside the branch with earthy textures, organic materials, and a color palette inspired by the surroundings.
  • The children’s area will be themed with oversized images of flora, fauna and native species, such as the rare blue calamintha bee, which is unique to this region.
  • The children’s area will also have interactive features, such as sensory experiences to encourage creativity, play, and learning.
  • The branch will have two training rooms, a virtual lab, study rooms, and three large meeting rooms.
  • Meeting rooms can be used as three independent rooms or opened to be used as one large space.
  • The project is on track to meet our deadlines.

The survey about what people would like to see in a library is also still live and will be used so that what the community values most in a library is still seen.
