From supporting local schools to lending a hand to neighbors in need, this group of community changemakers is proving that a little time, a lot of heart, and a shared purpose can make a BIG difference.
When you think about what makes Horizon West such a special place to live, the growing neighborhoods, local businesses, and community events probably come to mind. But behind the scenes, there’s another ingredient that makes this community shine: people who genuinely care about making life better for others.
And that’s exactly where the Rotary Club of Horizon West comes in!
Since 2019, this local group of professionals, business owners, and community-minded residents has been turning good intentions into meaningful action. Whether they’re supporting local families, volunteering alongside nonprofit organizations, or contributing to humanitarian efforts around the world, these Rotarians have one thing in common: they’re all about showing up and making a difference.
And there’s room for more neighbors at the table!
So, What Exactly Is Rotary?
If you’ve heard of Rotary but aren’t quite sure what happens beyond the meetings, you’re not alone!
Rotary International is a global service organization that brings people together to tackle challenges, build connections, and create lasting change. Its guiding motto, “Service Above Self,” is pretty straightforward: use your talents, resources, and time to help others.
Here in Horizon West, that mission takes on a distinctly local flavor.
The Rotary Club of Horizon West brings together people from different backgrounds and professions who share a passion for giving back. It’s an opportunity to meet neighbors, develop friendships, connect with fellow community leaders, and roll up your sleeves for causes that matter.
Think networking with a purpose, friendships with a mission, and community service with a whole lot of heart.
Making a Difference Right Here at Home
The Rotary Club of Horizon West doesn’t just talk about community impact. Its members get involved in projects that touch schools, families, and nonprofits throughout Horizon West and the greater West Orange County area.
Over the years, the club has supported an impressive range of local organizations and initiatives.
Supporting Local Students and Schools
From helping Maxey Elementary with technology, toy drives, and mentoring opportunities to assisting Keene’s Crossing Elementary with fifth-grade celebrations and playground supplies, the club has demonstrated a commitment to helping local students thrive.
Showing up for Neighbors in Need
The club has worked with organizations including Matthew’s Hope Ministries, Horizon West Cares, Eight Waves, and One Heart for Women and Children to support families and individuals facing difficult circumstances.
In April 2025, the club announced a $2,500 donation to Matthew’s Hope Ministries, recognizing the organization’s work providing shelter and essential resources to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Getting Hands-On for a Good Cause
Rotary members have also participated in Habitat for Humanity build days, supported Miles to Go backpack-packing initiatives, contributed to Second Harvest Food Bank efforts, and joined community events benefiting local education programs.
The club has even partnered with the Observer’s Reading Reindeer book drive to help put books into the hands of local children.
Sometimes making a difference means writing a check. Other times, it means packing a backpack, collecting donations, swinging a hammer, or simply being willing to help.
For Horizon West Rotarians, there’s value in all of it.
A Local Club With a Global Reach
While much of the club’s work happens close to home, its impact doesn’t stop at the Horizon West community boundaries.
Through Rotary’s broader network and partnerships, members have supported international humanitarian initiatives, including the Sharing Smiles program associated with AdventHealth.
Previous efforts helped support surgeries for children with cleft lip in Peru, demonstrating how a community organization in Central Florida can contribute to life-changing care thousands of miles away.
It’s a powerful reminder that even a local club can play a role in something much bigger.
More Than Meetings: It’s About Connection
Let’s talk about another reason people join Rotary: the people!
Horizon West is growing, and finding meaningful ways to connect with others can sometimes be a challenge. Rotary offers an opportunity to build relationships beyond the usual neighborhood introductions and business-card exchanges.
The club brings together people who want to get involved, contribute their skills, discover opportunities to serve, and have a good time along the way.
And yes, there are opportunities to socialize, too!
According to the club’s October 2026 website information, the Rotary Club of Horizon West hosts lunch meetings and monthly social outings, creating opportunities for members and guests to connect in both organized and relaxed settings.
Whether you’re a longtime Horizon West resident, a local business professional, or someone who’s simply looking for a way to become more connected to the community, Rotary offers a place to start.

Building on Years of Community Service
When Horizon West Happenings celebrated the club’s fifth year in June 2025, the organization had already raised more than $70,000 for local and international initiatives since its founding.
That’s a significant milestone for a club rooted in a growing community.
But the bigger story isn’t just the dollars raised. It’s the partnerships formed, volunteer hours contributed, and relationships built through years of service.
As Horizon West continues to grow in 2026, organizations like Rotary provide opportunities for residents to help shape the kind of community they want to call home.
And the more people who get involved, the more possibilities there are to do good.
