SeaWorld Orlando Howl-O-Scream Insider Tips

Sarah Lemp Avatar

If you’re planning a spine-chilling night at SeaWorld Orlando’s Howl-O-Scream, you’ll want to follow these tips. This after-hours, separate-ticketed event is packed with haunted houses, scare zones, live shows, and plenty of jump scares lurking around every corner. To make the most of your night, these insider tips will help you maximize (or minimize) your scares and fully enjoy everything this haunted spectacle has to offer.

What to Expect

SeaWorld Orlando’s Howl-O-Scream transforms the usually serene aquatic theme park into an intense, adult-targeted haunt packed with high-energy terror, immersive storytelling, and late-night thrills. Visitors can expect to navigate elaborately themed haunted houses filled with relentless jump scares, alongside several outdoor scare zones where fog-drenched pathways are prowled by roaming scare actors. Beyond the walk-through horrors, the event features high-energy live stage shows like Monster Stomp, themed interactive bars pouring signature specialty cocktails, and the unique opportunity to ride thrill coasters, such as Mako and Pipeline, in pitch darkness. With a dark, party-like atmosphere, specialty food bites, and scares lurking around almost every corner, it delivers a heart-pounding Halloween experience designed strictly for mature audiences and thrill-seekers.

Who Should Go to Howl-O-Screem

Like many of the Orlando Halloween attractions, Howl-O-Screem is definitely a more adult themed event. Though SeaWorld considers this an “adult only” event – children under 18 will be admitted. Personally, I would not recommend this event for children under 16. Along with the overall graphic nature of the scare zones, there are also other adult themes throughout the event that would make me uncomfortable experiencing it with kids.

Purchase a No-Boo Necklace

Howl-O-Scream is one of Orlando’s most thrilling Halloween experiences. However, if you want less scare, then purchase a No-Boo necklace.  This signals to the scare actors that you do not want any jump scares or to be approached. It’s meant to “help keep any monsters at bay” when you’re wandering the scare zones.

Start With the Houses

Tackle must-do haunted houses first. Each house has its own unique theme and terrifying surprises, so starting here sets the tone for the rest of the night. By knocking out some of the houses first, you’ll free up time later to explore the scare zones, enjoy the shows, ride attractions, and grab some spooky snacks.
Purchase a Skip the Line Pass to cover more ground!

Ride Coasters in the Dark

Ride Mako, Pipeline, or Ice Breaker at night for extra thrills! The dark adds some intensity to all the rides. Plus, the wait times usually go down later at night, so you can ride your favorites over and over again.

Use the Map

Houses and scare zones are spread out. Make sure to download the map or use the app to plan your route. The map shows you where all the haunts and thrills are located like haunted houses, scare zones, specialty foods and beverages, and shopping. You won’t want to miss a thing!
