Horizon West is getting a brand-new place to learn, create, connect and spend time together.
The new Horizon West Branch of the Orange County Library System officially opens its doors on Saturday, October 10, 2026, bringing 20,000 square feet of library space, technology, creative resources, outdoor experiences and community programming to Horizon West.
Located at 4657 Hamlin Groves Trail, Winter Garden, FL 34787, adjacent to Horizon West Regional Park, the new branch was designed to be much more than a place to check out books.
The grand opening celebration begins with a ribbon cutting and remarks at 10 a.m., followed by family performances and special activities from 10:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A Library Designed for the Way Horizon West Lives
The new Horizon West Branch was designed to serve as a true community resource, with spaces for everything from studying and working to creating videos, attending classes and bringing the kids for storytime.
Inside, visitors will find two free study rooms and three meeting rooms available for public reservation, giving students, remote workers, local groups and community organizations new spaces to gather.
One of the most exciting additions is the free Media Lab, complete with a green screen, lighting, and recording and editing software for audio, video and photography projects. Whether you’re working on a school assignment, creating content or experimenting with a new creative skill, the lab brings even more resources right here to the Horizon West community.
The branch also includes two training rooms that will be used for technology classes, fiber arts, STEM programs and other educational opportunities.
The Library Experience Heads Outdoors
Some of the most unique features of the Horizon West Branch are actually outside.
The library includes dedicated outdoor spaces for programming and community use, including a permanent StoryWalk®, where families can take a stroll while enjoying successive pages from a children’s story displayed along the walking path.
Visitors will also find interactive outdoor musical instruments and a performance and play area behind the building featuring a shade structure and astroturf for casual seating, performances and play.
It’s another way the new branch expands the traditional idea of a library, creating a place where Horizon West families can learn, explore and spend time together both indoors and out.
What’s Happening at the Grand Opening
Opening day is shaping up to be a full community celebration.
Following the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting and remarks, the Orange County Library System is planning family performances, activities and interactive experiences throughout the day.

- Meet a Beekeeper
- LEGO Spike Demonstration
- Pollinating bee craft
- Scavenger Hunt
- Media Lab experience
- Solar observing
- Nature Walk with a Master Gardener
- StoryWalk®
- Outdoor games
- Family drum circle
Family performances and special activities are planned from 10:15 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., giving families plenty of time to stop by, explore the new branch and experience everything it has to offer.
More Than a New Library for Horizon West
For a growing community like Horizon West, the opening represents something bigger than a new building.
It’s a place for little ones to discover storytime, students to find a quiet place to study, neighbors and local organizations to meet, residents to learn new technology and creators to experiment with tools they may not have access to at home.
Most importantly, it’s another place for the Horizon West community to come together.
