A Family Legacy
Long before culinary school or starting her own business, Shonda learned her way around the kitchen from her grandmother. Those early cooking and baking lessons sparked a passion that would eventually shape her career.
Shonda founded her business in 2009, initially focusing on desserts. As the company grew, she expanded into catering and renamed it Gertrude’s Kitchen, LLC, in honor of the grandmother who first taught her to cook. It’s a meaningful tribute that keeps her grandmother’s influence at the heart of the business.
Shonda also brings an impressive educational background to her work. She earned an Associate of Science degree in Baking and Pastry from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, along with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Florida A&M University. That combination of culinary expertise and business education has helped her turn a lifelong passion into a successful local business.
